– Alex Kaars Sijpesteijn, Project Manager, Solway Wetlands LPS
"It is fantastic that this renovation is now complete.
"It will provide a destination for visitors and locals on the Solway from which to explore this RSPB site and the surrounding area, as well as being a hub for volunteering and educational activities."
The newly renovated Solway Wetlands Centre has officially opened at RSPB Campfield Marsh, near Bowness-on-Solway.
The visitor centre has been converted from a Victorian barn to house an education room and staff and volunteer space.
The renovation has used green techniques, such as wool insulation, hempcrete plaster and lime pointing, and its purpose is to provide a focal point and destination on the Solway Plain.
The project cost £1.9 million and has been funded by the Heritage Lottery.
