Christmas is coming and the region's animal centres are poised for the usual influx of unwanted and abandoned pets that arrive at this time of year.
However, Eden Animal Rescue Centre at Hardendale near Shap is making a desperate plea about another problem.
Kim Inglis reports.
Eden Animal Rescue Centre has launched a desperate appeal for volunteers after a number of staff have had to leave because of the cost of travelling to the rescue centre.
The centre needs six more volunteers to complement the 20 they already have and three paid employees.
The centre looks after around 30 cats and 20 dogs.
