Great Britain's Under 20s are training at the Ice Bowl today ahead of an International Ice Hockey Federation tournament which will take place in Dumfries between Monday December 9 and Sunday December 15

Ice Hockey returns to Dumfries

World Championship Ice Hockey is returning to Dumfries.

The Ice Bowl will play host to the Men’s Under 18s World Championship in March.

The tournament will see countries including Great Britain, Croatia, Korea, Lithuania and the Netherlands compete over a six day period between 24 and 30 of March.

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Ice Hockey Development Officer Martin Grubb has been confirmed as the Head Coach for the national team.

The most recent International Ice Hockey Federation championship to take place in Dumfries, the Under 20s Category 1B tournament in December 2013, was hailed as a superb success by organisers.

Dumfries is celebrating after a successful ice hockey championship.

The under 21 world championship, which was held at the Dumfries Ice Bowl ended on Sunday.

Over a £100,000 was put into the local economy through accommodation alone, for the competing nations and their support staff.

World Championships a great success

The Ice Hockey World Championships taking place in Dumfries all this week are proving a huge success, according to organisers.

Hundreds of spectators have come to cheer on Great Britain's Under 20 team in their first two games.

Hockey's world famous 'The Stanley Cup' trophy has arrived in Dumfries.

It will take centre stage at Dumfries Ice Bowl as part of an exhibition commemorating '100 years of ice hockey in the UK' while the U20 World Championship takes place.

The son of legendary singer Rod Stewart, Liam, is part of the squad who will compete for Great Britain next week. He was not at training today but is expected to join up with his team mates tomorrow.

His mother, Rachel Hunter, model and ex-wife of Rod Stewart has already taken to twitter to announce her intention of coming to Dumfries next week to cheer her son and the Great Britain side on in the tournament.
