A cafe and deli in Selkirk run by the soup firm Baxters is to close, with the loss of more than 20 jobs.

The company says it can no longer run the business, because its distributer plant at Blackford in Perthshire is set to be sold.

The news has been described as bitterly disappointing and a blow for the town, as Jenny Longden reports:

The Baxters cafe and deli in the Scottish Borders is to close with the loss of 23 jobs.

The shop, run by the soup producers of the same name, is to close their factory in Selkirk and another one in Edinburgh.

Cllr Gordon Edgar Scottish Borders Council said its an 'devastating blow' for the workers:

The company say their main distributers for their retail outlets is selling up and they have been unable to find a replacement.
