Seven days until Christmas - and for Royal Mail staff in Carlisle it's the busiest day of the year.
The city's mail centre handles letters and parcels from all over the country which are destined for Cumbria and Dumfries & Galloway.
Julie Pirone says they'll deal with six hundred thousand items of mail today and are urging everyone to take time to write a full address:
Royal Mail in Carlisle are expecting to handle over half a million items of Christmas post a day during this, their busiest week of the year.
But staff are asking everyone sending anything over the next few days to make sure they send it on time and include postcodes to avoid any letters being lost or delayed.
Carlisle mail centre workers will be working through a bumper festive mail bag of up to 600,000 items on its busiest day today, Wednesday 18 December.
The 283 mail centre workers and 838 Carlisle delivery postmen and women as Royal Mail delivers a first class Christmas for all its customers.
But, Royal Mail is urging people to make sure they post their letters as early as possible to ensure they reach their destination by Christmas Day.
- Last recommended posting dates for First Class Mail is Friday 20 December
- Last recommended posting date for Second Class is Wednesday 18 December
- Important items can be posted using Special Delivery up until December 23
