Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Carlisle.
Paramedics and police were called to an address on Raffles Avenue shortly after 4am on 1 January.
A 23-year-old man was treated at the scene for his injuries before being taken to the Cumberland infirmary.
He was then transferred to the Freeman Hospital Newcastle for further surgery, where his condition is now described as ‘stable’.
Seven men from Carlisle, aged between 19 and 59, and one man from Wigton aged 24, were arrested on the day.
Seven of the men have been released on police bail until 12 February, while the police investigation continues.
A 59-year-old man, from Carlisle, has been released with no further action.
A young man is fighting for his life after being stabbed during New Year's Eve celebrations in Carlisle.
Emergency services found the 23-year-old at an address in Raffles Avenue shortly after 4am on Wednesday.
He was treated at the scene before being rushed to Cumberland Infirmary, where he underwent an operation for life-threatening injuries, Cumbria Police said.
The man was later transferred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle for further surgery and is in a critical condition.
Eight men aged between 23 and 59 have been arrested and remain in custody.
