Tributes paid to A66 crash victims

Tributes have been paid to the three men who died in separate collisions in Cumbria on Sunday.

William Bell, who was 85, was killed on the A66 near Embleton. His family say he was a "wonderful character."

52-year-old Ian Broughton died in Sedbergh, he was described as a loving father and son.

And the family of Michael Iveson, who died near Millom, described the 66-year-old from Lindal, as a biking fanatic.


A66 crash death toll rises

A fourth person has died following a road traffic accident yesterday.

A 66 year old man from Furness died after a crash involving his motorbike on the A595 in the Whicham Valley near Millom.

In total, three motorcyclists have died along with a car driver in incidents on the A66 near Cockermouth, the A684 near Sedbergh and the A595 near Millom.

The accidents took place within the space of 2 and a half hours yesterday afternoon.

Cumbria road deaths 'tragic'

Three motorists died yesterday on the A66 following two road accidents.

Cumbria Police have described the accidents as 'tragic'.

"It's absolutely tragic. Four deaths is significant and it'll have a devastating effect on four families. It's unbelievable to happen in one day."

Police identify men after A66 collision

Police have identified two men who died following the traffic collision on the A66 yesterday.

The driver of the car has been identified as William Bell, aged 85, from Moor Road, Great Broughton.

The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Iain David Prestwich, aged 49, from Blencogo, Wigton.

Both the rider and driver from both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for approximately four hours whilst an investigation was carried out.

Death in second A66 accident

A second collision on the A66 has claimed the life of a motorbike rider.

At 2.15pm yesterday, a rider on an MV Augusta motorbike was killed after being in a crash with a Volkswagon Tiguan on the A684 at Langston Fell, a few miles east of Sedbergh.

The car driver, aged 55, received light injuries and he was treated at the scene by an ambulance.

A motorcyclist and a car driver were also killed in a separate collision an hour before.

Investigations have begun into both incidents and anyone with information is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101.

Two die in A66 road accident

A crash on the A66 Embleton has claimed 2 lives.

A 49 year old man from Wigton died when his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Hyundai i10 car driven by a man from the Cockermouth area yesterday at 12.55pm on the A66 Embleton.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone who may of seen the incident, and are also keen to speak to the driver of a Mitsubishi 4x4 which was towing a horsebox travelling towards Keswick who may have witnessed the collision.

Investigations into the incident is under way and anyone with information is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101.
