Controversial Workington leisure centre gets go-ahead

Plans to build a controversial new leisure centre in Workington could be given the go-ahead later today. A planning meeting is being held by Allerdale Borough Council to discuss the proposal to build the new facilities on land at Cloffocks. The council say the new £9m sports centre would replace two ageing buildings and benefit the town.

Residents in a Workington ward are unhappy with plans to build a £9m leisure centre in their area.

People living in Moorclose want the money to be used to upgrade the existing sports centre in the town.

Plans to build the controversial new centre are to be discussed by members of Allerdale Borough Council at an open meeting this afternoon.
