A new scheme offering a twice-weekly bus service to Carlisle for inhabitants of Rockcliffe is up and running.

Villagers were facing the possibility of being left without transport when the county council scrapped bus subsidies, but it has now teamed up with a private taxi firm to run Village Wheels.

However Councillor Val Tarbitt has warned that people need to use the service if they hope to keep it, describing it as a classic case of "use it or lose it'
