There has been widespread support from businesses in Cumbria after Carlisle City Council gave initial approval to redevelop the city's airport. The plans could still be blocked by further appeals by objectors, but many business leaders are hoping it's approved...
A £25m revamp of Carlisle airport which would see passenger flights across the UK and Ireland looks set to go ahead after the local council granted permission.
The Stobart Group who own the site say that today's decision could bring 500 jobs to the area. Opponents are still considering whether or not to appeal against it.

"It is a very special opportunity that will be widely welcomed by the whole of Carlisle - in particular the business community.
"The decision follows publication of a survey by Stobart Group showingthat 95% of people questioned were in favour of flights to London."
City councillors in Carlisle have approved the Stopart Groups plans to develop Carlisle airport. It is not yet known whether or not opponents will seek a judicial review of the decision
