Man arrested for possession of weapon

A man has been arrested in a supermarket car park following a number of crimes including dangerous driving and possession of a weapon.

Police were called to the Asda near London Road in Carlisle where the 42 year old was arrested in the car park.

It follows a report of a white Ford Focus nearly hitting another car at St Nicholas Gate retail park last night.

Eight police vehicles were called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police said:

Police arrested a man, of unknown address, on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop, driving while disqualified, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and possession of an offensive weapon."

Traders react to Dumfries Asda plans

Traders in Dumfries have spoken to ITV Border about their reaction to plans to build an £15 million ASDA store in the town.

Stuart Houston who runs a butchers says he's worried it could take trade away from businesses in the town.

Rab Smith, Chairman of Dumfries Retailers Assocition told ITV Border:

"Any investment in Dumfries is a good thing but it should be in the town centre not on the outskirts."
