More than 500 lots have been donated to today's auction in Carlisle by farmers and the local communities.
Donations include everything from a billy goat to a cheese making experience.
The auction has raised around £100,000 pound over the past 30 years.
More than 250 people have turned out for the opening sale at Kendal's new auction mart at the Moss End Rural Business Park site.
Around 1,500 sheep are being sold at the auction, which is proving just as popular as the sales held at the old auction mart.
Kendal's new auction mart is hosting its first sale, and it is hoped they will prove as popular as the sales in the old mart.
Almost 130 years of livestock auctioneering came to an end last week when the old mart was closed.
The new 13.5-acre site at Moss End Rural Business Park near junction 36 of the M6, is capable of handling up to 1,100 cattle or 10,000 sheep.
