Gold Anchors for Cumbrian marina

Maryport's become the first marina in Cumbria to be awarded Gold Anchors.

The Gold Anchor Scheme's been going for more than twenty five years, and it recognises harbours that meet industry demands and take care of their customers.

Maryport Harbour got three anchors, meaning it provides convenient access to a fuel service, and has clear pollution and fire safety plans.

You don't have to go far in this part of the world to find a golf course... and five in the region are celebrating after making it on to a prestigious list of the best affordable golf courses in the UK.

At the very top of the list was one small Cumbrian course which has been praised for it's beauty and the overall experience it offers golfers.

Club secretary overjoyed with award

The secretary of Silloth on Solway golf club, Alan Oliver, has welcomed the recent accolade awarded to the club by 'Today's Golfer' magazine.

" It's a fantastic achievement for the club, and to received such high accolade is an honour and a privilege.

"We pride ourselves on offering great value for money, and it makes it extra special to be recognised for this. It's brilliant for us and the county."
