A replacement steel bridge is being lifted into place at Bell Bridge at Welton near Carlisle today. The structure was badly damaged during Storm Desmond in 2015.
The reconstruction of the bridge will allow the council to restore the road over the River Caldew to reconnect communities separated by the flood.
Cumbria County Council has tweeted that people were seen crossing a Cumbrian bridge 20 minutes before it collapsed... despite warning signs being in place.
Bell Bridge had stood near the village of Welton for nearly 250 years, but was damaged in the December floods, and collapsed yesterday.
