No charges for man arrested over teenager's death

A 35-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a teenage boy was shot in the head has been released without charge.

15-year-old Edward Gabbert died in hospital on Friday 22 November 2013.

He was shot at 11:17pm yesterday in Ulpha, Broughton-in-Furness, when he and two men and were shooting with permission on farm land.

Police say, should further information come to light, he may be spoken to again.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101.

Assembly held for Ulpha shooting victim

A special assembly is being held at Millom School in Cumbria in memory of a 15-year-old pupil who was shot on a farm in Ulpha.

Edward Gabbert died in hospital last Friday (22nd November).

A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter has been bailed.

In a statement his headteacher said Edward was a popular, mature student and a real Cumbrian.

Police name boy shot in Ulpha

Police have identified a 15-year-old boy who was shot in Ulpha as Edward Gabbert.

Edward died at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

"He was on farm land in the Ulpha area, with two other men, when an incident occurred and he was shot.

"He was taken to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where despite the best efforts of medical staff, he sadly died."

A 35-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and has been bailed while enquiries continue.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a 15-year-old boy.

The man, who is from Barrow, had previously been detained on suspicion of GBH.

The boy was shot at 11:17pm yesterday in Ulpha, Broughton-in-Furness, when he and two men and were shooting with permission on farm land.

The boy has yet to be named.

The incident occurred at 11:17pm yesterday (21 November) in Ulpha when two men and a boy were shooting with permission on farm land.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Grievous Bodily Harm and is helping police with their enquires.

The other man, who is in his forties, was not injured or arrested.

Cumbrian boy in a critical condition after being shot

A 15-year-old boy from Cumbria is in a critical condition after being shot.

Police were called to Ulpha, Broughton in Furness at 11.27pm yesterday after an incident occurred when people were shooting with permission.

The boy was taken to Salford Infirmary after suffering serious injuries.

A 35-year-old man from Barrow has been detained by police.
