Dumfries DJ tops the highest paid list

Music superstar Calvin Harris has been crowned the world's highest paid DJ for the third year in a row.

According to Forbes' latest rich list the 31 year old from south west Scotland is worth nearly £42 million.

Harris, who now lives in Los Angeles, grew up in Dumfries and was a pupil at Dumfries High School.

There are reports that Adam Wiles has been spotted in Dumfries today.

Never heard of him? perhaps you know him as Calvin Harris but during his time in hometown Dumfries he went by Adam.

The Scottish DJ rose to fame in 2007 with top-ten singles "The Girls" and "Acceptable in the 80s". Since then Harris has collaborated with some of the world biggest musicians in the industry.

It is thought the singer songwriter was sighted at Lincluden School around 2:30pm today.

Calvin Harris enters Sunday Times Rich List

Dumfries-born Calvin Harris has entered the Sunday Times Rich List for the first time.

The 31-year-old DJ and producer, who is reportedly worth £70 million, is ranked joint 30th with Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend.

Sir Paul McCartney heads the list. He is said to have amassed a personal fortune of £730 million - £20 million up from last year - despite not having had a UK number one single in decades.

The full Rich List, a 128-page guide to the 1,000 richest people in the UK and 250 wealthiest in Ireland, is published on Sunday.

Dumfries-born DJ and producer Calvin Harris could win two Brit Awards at this evening's ceremony in London.

His song "Summer' is shortlisted for the best British Single award, and is also nominated in the best British video category.

Two years ago, he became the first artist to have nine top ten hits from one album, beating the likes of the Beatles and Michael Jackson.

The MTV European Music Awards (EMA) published a tweet saying the Dumfries-born DJ had pulled out of the show because of illness.

The EMAs are being held in Glasgow on Sunday night.

Dumfries DJ and producer Calvin Harris has become the first UK solo act notch up more than one billion plays worldwide on music streaming service Spotify - the equivalent of over 5,000 continuous years of his music being played.

He has become one of only a few global music acts to achieve the milestone, and joins the only other Brit artists to do so, Coldplay.

Harris's hit Summer is the most popular track on the service and has now been streamed more than 160 million times.

He is the eighth act to break through the billion barrier and joins the likes of Eminem, Rihanna, David Guetta and Katy Perry.

Dumfries born Calvin Harris has been ranked as one of the wealthiest young people in the UK music industry.

The 30-year-old chart topping DJ has a fortune estimated at about £30 million.

He's had nine top singles from his latest album, 18 Months, and was named songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello Awards.

Harris comes second to Adele, who has almost doubled her fortune in the past year, although she hasn't released new material. Her fortune is estimated at £45 million.

Dumfries-born DJ and producer Calvin Harris has made chart history, for the second time, after becoming the first act to score nine top ten hits from the same album.

The Scottish star had previously broken chart records in April of this year when he notched up eight top ten hits from his album "18 Months".

His new personal best comes with the release of single "Thinking About You" with singer Ayah Marar - which ranked at number nine in the charts this weekend.

The album has sold more than 543,000 copies in the UK since its release in October.

Calvin Harris wins "Songwriter of the Year"

Dumfries DJ Calvin Harris has been named "Songwriter of the Year" at the prestigious Ivor Novello awards in London.

The 29-year-old made history by becoming the first ever DJ to be honoured with the award, which is traditionally given to writers from the pop and rock world.

Calvin Harris Tweeted his reaction after the ceremony, he said: "Just won Songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello awards. Proudest moment of my life. Speechless."

It is the second time the producer/songwriter has made history in the last three weeks, after becoming the first artist to score eight top ten hits from the same album.

His album "18months" includes hits like Sweet Nothing and I Need Your Love.

Harris was presented his award by world renowned DJ Pete Tong, who later Tweeted:

"Today I presented @CalvinHarris** with the songwriter of the year award at the legendary #Ivor** Novello's first DJ ever to win ...amazing !!"

Dumfries DJ and producer Calvin Harris has made chart history after becoming the first act to score eight top ten hits from the same album.

The songwriting star clocked up his latest hit when his collaboration with Ellie Goulding, "I need your love", reached number seven in the charts.

The song, which is from his album "18 months", means that Harris has surpassed Michael Jackson who achieved seven top ten hits with his 1987 album "bad".

The album has sold more than 543,000 copies in the UK since its release in October.

Martin Talbot, from the Official Charts Company, said:

"Many artists only achieve a handful of hits in their entire careers, so for any act to secure three or four from one album is an excellent achievement.

"In turn, eight top 10s from one album is not just impressive, it is absolutely remarkable. And, of course, record breaking. Congratulations to Calvin Harris, the modern day hit-maker."

Calvin Harris has collaborated with an impressive array of stars, including Rihanna and Florence Welch, with songs like "We found love" and "Sweet nothing".
