A new specialist palliative care unit costing £250,000 is opening in Whitehaven.
The Copeland Unit, based on the site of the West Cumberland Hospital, will provide specialist care from the four specially developed en-suite rooms.
The new beds will provide a calming and relaxing environment for patients who need specialist palliative care.
– Esther Kirby, Deputy Director of Nursing for CPFT
"Many patients who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness can be cared for by their GP, hospital consultant, district nurse and other health care professionals involved in their care.
"There are some patients however that have very complex symptoms or severe pain that cannot be managed without specialist knowledge and who require an intensive period of assessment, care and/or psychological support to address these. The newly opened four beds will enable this to happen."
