Scottish Borders boy swims the "Channel" for new Scout hall roof

An 8-year-old boy from the Scottish Borders finished off a massive challenge this evening.

Ivan Burt-Smith has been swimming the equivalent of the Channel in his local swimming pool to raise money for his Scout hall roof.

The distance is 22 miles and Ivan reached France - in a way - during our live broadcast.

We sent our reporter Jenny Longden to Selkirk swimming pool to find out about his amazing achievement.

An eight-year-old boy from Selkirk will complete a 22-mile swim at his local pool this evening, to raise money for his local Scout hall.

Ivan Burt-Smith is swimming the equivalent of the Channel to help raise money towards the £25,000 needed for Selkirk Scout Group’s new Scout hall roof.

He has been fitting in up to five one-hour sessions each week at the local pool, and will complete the final 20 laps out of 1416 on Tuesday evening.
