Special delivery for 10 Downing Street

A Christmas tree grower from Dumfries and Galloway has won the top prize in a national tree competition.

Mike Craig, from Creetown, Newton Stewart, will now deliver a 16 foot 6 inches tree to Number 10 Downing Street where it will remain throughout the festive season.

Mr Craig won the title of 'Champion Christmas Tree Grower 2012' at the 14th Annual British Christmas Tree Growers Association Competition.

"“We’re delighted to win such a prestigious award – it makes all the hard work we put into growing our trees so worthwhile. We can’t wait to visit Downing Street and see the tree stand outside one of the UK’s most famous residences.”

– Mike Craig

"Our tree competition is always popular with our members and this year was no different. The standard of the entries this year was extremely high but Mike presented a fabulous tree that met the judging criteria perfectly. We’re looking forward to seeing him deliver a tree to Downing Street to bring some festive spirit to all those who visit No. 10.”

– Harry Brightwell, Secretary for the BCTGA

He'll deliver his huge tree to 10 Downing Street in December, where it'll take residence outside the front door.
