Historic Rose Castle bought by charity

An historic Grade 1-listed building, which was home to the Bishops of Carlisle for 800 years, is to re-open as an international centre for peace and reconciliation.

Rose Castle near Dalston, which has been empty since 2009, has been bought by The Rose Castle Foundation, which is a charitable organisation.

Toddler 'seriously injured' after being run over by car

An 18-month-old baby boy has been run over in Cumbria.

The baby sustained serious leg, pelvic and abdominal injuries during the incident which happened yesterday, Monday 18 August, in the car park of Lime House School in Dalston.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene.

The child was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for specialist care. The circumstances of the incident are not yet clear.
