Man charged after couple killed in Borders crash

A 48-year-old man has been charged with alleged driving offences after a couple died in a road crash in the Scottish Borders.

53-year-old Derek Peoples and his wife Avril Peoples, 51, from Kelso, both died in the collision which took place on the Greenlaw to Cafraemill road on 23rd December 2012.

The man will appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court at a later date.

Beattock crash victim named

The 46-year-old woman who was killed in a car accident near Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway has been named as Dawn Kirk.

A 20-year-old man who was driving the Vauxhall Corsa involved in the crash, was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or saw the Corsa before the incident is asked to contact police on 0845 600 5701 or anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Update: Road re-opened after fatal crash

The A701 has been re-opened, after a fatal road crash at around 10am this morning (10th January).

A 46-year-old woman was killed in the accident at Marchbank Woods near Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway.

A 20-year-old man who was driving the Vauxhall Corsa involved in the crash, was taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
