There’s a shortage of foster carers in parts of Cumbria. In the Carlisle and Penrith area alone the local authority needs to increase foster families by two thirds to cope with the amount of children needing care.
Sandra Fialkowski has looked after nearly 200 children in her 35 years as a carer. She says fostering can be very rewarding and is urging people to consider it:
An event will be held in Carlisle for people interested in becoming foster carers.
Cumbria County Council say more carers are needed for children and young people of all ages. Potential carers merely need to have the skills to make a positive change to their lives.
An information event will be held at Carlisle East Community Fire Station (Eastern Way), on Wednesday 28 June, with a presentation starting at 6pm.
The council's fostering team will be in attendance to offer support and confidential advice.
