A charity in Penrith has won an award for its work helping people in fuel poverty in Cumbria.

It's been praised for its sustainability, financing itself with the commission for helping people switch.

The award was sponsored by British Gas, which says it supports groups trying to make energy bills more affordable.

Solar panels result in fuel poverty for Longtown residents

Residents who say they've been driven into fuel poverty by the fitting of inefficient heating systems are taking their fight to the Secretary of State for Local Government Eric Pickles.

In February, Lookaround reported on the plight of dozens of people in Longtown who had complained to Riverside Housing Association.

Two months later and many of those complaints are still outstanding. Riverside say they're working with tenants to resolve the issues.
