– Norman Kyle, Building owner
"How do they come up the street with a 30 mph speed limit and do damage like that? I was horrified to see and hear and think this can happen in Brampton. The shop will be closed and it'll need to reopen."
– Mike Mitchelson, Eyewitness
"As it all happened it was just unreal - the loud bang first of all and then the crash through the door - it was just something you see in a movie and it's a bit frightening really. It's just after you become shocked because it was just yards away from where you were standing."
A car crash in Brampton this morning has damaged a gas meter and pipe in the area.
The accident happened on Main street around 5am, when the car collided with a shop.
No one was injured, but engineers from Northern Gas Networks are on site to cap the supply of gas to the property.
Emergency Services have closed Cant Crescent in Carlisle whilst they deal with a ruptured gas cylinder.
The cylinder is mounted on a vehicle.
Both police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene.
Residents within Cant Crescent are being advised to stay in their homes and avoid exposing naked flames.
The fire and rescue services are reassuring people that this is as a precautionary measure only.
Motorists are also being asked to avoid the area.
