University statement over job cuts
University and College Union bosses are meeting with textile department staff in Galashiels today to discuss potential job cuts.
Heriot-Watt University revealed proposals for a shake up of staff and jobs earlier this week.
The cost cutting proposals include getting rid of a quarter of staff members from the Textile department at Heriot-Watt University's Galashiels based campus as part of a five-year plan the University says is designed to ensure 'continued financial sustainability'.
– Heriot-Watt University spokspersonIt will focus on core, financially sustainable activities, a restructuring of the staffing profile, an increasing focus on research activity and improving international student recruitment.
As part of this process the School is undergoing a consultation on implementation of the plan including more flexible staffing arrangements such as redeployment and overall working hours. The University is working closely with the staff and the unions to ensure that the changes can be met through voluntary means where possible.
