There is a yellow warning in force for snow and ice in parts of the Border region between 7pm tonight and 11am on Boxing Day.

Rain will turn to sleet and snow in parts of southern Scotland this evening, as well as the north Pennines, with further wintry showers in places overnight. Ice will become more of a risk later as skies begin to clear.

Some roads and railways may be affected by longer journey times, with icy surfaces forming on roads, pavements and cycle paths.

Snow and ice warning for Scottish Borders

An advanced snow and ice warning has been issued for the Scottish Borders.

The Met Office say showers will turn increasingly to snow on high ground during New Year's Eve and continue into New Year's Day.

Patchy ice will also be an additional hazard on some surfaces, mainly in rural areas.

The public are advised to be aware of the conditions and of the potential for some travel disruption over higher ground.
