Kingmoor schools planning exhibition

Cumbria County Council are holding an exhibition for parents and locals before it submits a planning application for the expansion of Kingmoor schools.

The council approved proposals to expand the Nursery and Infant, and Junior schools earlier this year.

The expansion would include an extra two classrooms built for the Nursery and Infant school, and increase capacity from 180 to 225 pupils.

The plans for the Junior School would also see two extra classrooms built plus some additional accommodation, increasing capacity from 240 to 300 places.

The event is being held to give people an opportunity to see the plans and to talk to representatives from the school and council.

Plans for new Carlisle United stadium hit "disappointing" glitch

Plans for a new stadium at Carlisle United may not go ahead, if the city council does not support a development of new shops planned alongside it.

The club says it has been told by council officers that their report will conclude the city does not need all the extra shops planned at Kingmoor.

However, proposals for the 12,000 all-seater stadium require funding from a development partner, who would profit from the retail space as well as the stadium.

The club said this would have a "detrimental effect" on plans for the new stadium.

"If this report is adopted into the local development framework/plan then it will mean a complete rethink of current plans.

"This is really disappointing, after what amounts to over two years of work and costs, and Carlisle United Football Club will now need to regroup and meet with the developers before making a further statement."
