200 schoolchildren competing in the 14th annual Lanercost Cross Country competition were joined by Olympian and Great North Run founder Brendan Foster. He founded the Great North Run, which is the biggest annual running event in the UK. The event at Lanercost was slightly smaller, but hundreds of family, friends and even ferrets turned out to cheer on the runners, who were aged between 3 and 11 years old.

A primary school in Cumbria is bringing their history lesson alive today. Lanercost pupils are hosting a Tudor banquet at Naworth Castle near Brampton to complement the learning they have been doing this term.

Staff and children will be dressed in period costume for the event in the Castle's banqueting Hall. Friends of Lanercost are providing the food.
