Langholm entrepreneur and sporting hero David Stevenson is to follow in the footsteps of the 1969 Moon Landings astronaut Neil Armstrong.
The Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Dumfries, Mr Stevenson, is to be granted Honorary Freeman status.
The honour recognises "his involvement in bringing national recognition to the town, his generosity of spirit, and the time he has devoted to his local community."
70 year-old Mr Stevenson has been instrumental in many projects in the Langholm area.
He founded the Rotary Club of Langholm and was the driving force behind Langholm Initiative, The Buccleuch Centre, the Langholm Walks and the Christmas Lights committee. As a pole vaulter he represented GB in the Olympics in 1964 and Scotland in the Commonwealth Games in 1962, 1966 & 1970.
