Police name murdered Dumfries man

The 54-year-old man found murdered in his flat in Dumfries has been named as Brian Scott.

Mr Scott was found in his flat in Gilbert Circle in the town on Friday (26th April).

Police Scotland say Mr Scott, who is better known as 'Tucker', lived alone and was originally from Stranraer.

"At this stage we are keen to trace and speak to anyone who may be able to help piece together Brian’s last movements on Thursday evening or Friday morning in or around his home in Gilbert Circle.

"We are also keen to trace anyone who may have been in the area of Gilbert Circle on Thursday evening, through to early Friday morning and who may have seen or heard anything which may help us in our enquiries into this death.”

Workington crash victim named

A man who was killed after being hit by a car in Workington has been named as 54-year-old James Smith from Hyde Street in Workington.

Mr Smith, known locally as Jim, was taken to West Cumberland Hospital with serious head injuries, but died this morning (16th January).

The accident happened at 5.45pm last night (15th January), on Oxford Street in Workington.

A grey Honda CR-V, driven by a 50-year-old woman from Workington, collided with Mr Smith near to the Park Lane junction.

The driver of the Honda was arrested at the scene on Suspicion of Driving Without Due Care and Attention and has been released on bail.

The road was closed for four hours for police investigations.
