Selkirk Chamber of Trade Chairman Will Haegland spoke to our reporter about how he hopes pop up shops will improve visitor numbers in the Borders:
A project that will see empty premises in Selkirk used as temporary pop-up shops could improve footfall to the town, according to the Chamber of Trade Chairman.
Will Haegeland hopes to see five of the town's empty shops being used 80 percent of the time between now and December 2013.
£22,000 is being given towards the scheme and the Chamber of Trade are now looking for a Project Manager to take it forward.

Around £22,00 has been awarded to Selkirk's Chamber of Trade to help increase footfall in the town.
The money, which will be spent on pop-up shops, is being provided by LEADER (Links Between Activities Developing the Rural Economy).
The project funding will end in December 2013, and between now and then, the chamber are hoping find uses for shops that are currently unused.

"More than 16 per cent of retail units in the town are left vacant. A town centre showing boarded-up and closed-down retail units suggests dilapidation and depression.
"Selkirk Chamber of Trade and Commerce thinks it is time to regain a feeling of community and pride for the High Street.
"In and around Selkirk there is a vast range of arts, crafts and food produce being made, but very little of this is for sale within the town.
"Very few are acknowledged in the town centre, yet all may benefit from frequent exposure and outlets there"
