Brothel trial latest

A witness has told Carlisle Crown Court that Azad Miah paid her £80 for underage sex. The girl says she was 15 and smoking cannabis when she approached Miah for a job in his takeaway. She says he asked if she wanted to make "Big money" and offered her £80 to have sex with him.

She says that some weeks later he picked her up in his car and took her to the countryside for sex. Stephen Meadowcroft QC for the defence disputes the evidence of this witness. Under cross examination she agrees that she changed her original statement last week.

Up until that point she had not mentioned having sex with Mr Miah. She says she changed her mind because she felt she had to tell the whole truth. Mr Meadowcroft says no sex occured. Azad Miah deines all charges against him. The trial continues

The trial of a Carlisle takeaway owner accused of running a brothel, paying a child for sex and inciting child prostitution is entering its second week.

Azad Miah, who ran the former Spice of India in Botchergate, denies 17 charges.

Last week the trial, at Carlisle Crown Court, heard from a number of teenage girls who said they'd received text messages from him offering to pay them for sex.

However none of them now had the messages.

The prosecution evidence is expected to end shortly.

The accused, Mr. Miah, could go into the witness box tomorrow (Tues) to start giving the defence evidence. The trial is expected to last three weeks in total.
