A new three-million-pound centre will open as part of Healthy City Week in Carlisle.
Work began on the Shaddogate Community Resource and Training Centre in September 2010, with the design of the scheme brought together by Carlisle City Council, Cumbria Constabulary and health and housing services.
New facilities include an IT training suite, leisure and recreational activities, support, mentoring and advisory services and City Centre office opportunities.
– Cllr Jessica Riddle, Carlisle City
"The new facilities address the short and long term needs of vulnerable people as well as providing a much needed community resource, supporting people of all ages with education, training and recreational opportunities.
"The building has an innovative 'green design' and has a variety of high-quality facilities."
The Carlisle City Council scheme has a 'green' design, based on energy efficient construction methods including, rainwater harvesting, low energy lighting and a ground source heat pump.
