Voters in Moffat, Lockerbie and Lochmaben areas will elect their new councillor today (15th November), after the sudden death of Councillor Ted Brown last month.
Polling stations will close at 10pm, with the count starting in Lockerbie Town Hall shortly afterwards.
The result is due around 2am.
Dumfries and Galloway councillor Ted Brown has died after collapsing during a meeting.
Annandale North councillor Mr Brown, from Lockerbie, was attending a meeting of the Council's Planning, Housing and Environment Services Committee this morning when he was taken ill.
Councillor Brown was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Infirmary, where he later died.
An Annandale councillor is being treated in hospital after falling ill during a Dumfries and Galloway Council meeting.
A statement confirmed that Ted Brown, who represents Annandale north, was admitted to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment.
