The Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology Peter Luff has visited the MOD site at Longtown, north of Carlisle, to discuss the potential closure of the site and its sister facility in Eastriggs in Dumfries and Galloway.
The Joint Trade Unions says closing the munitions sites would put the supply to the front line at risk. Around 300 jobs could go if they close. Both sites are said to require significant investment if they are to be maintained.
