A £220,000 refurbishment of Allerdale Borough Council's Carnegie theatre will be completed next week.
Some of the work undertaken in the refurbishment includes the opening up of the balcony area, new flooring and seating, and considerable repairs to the roof and external building.
The revamped theatre will now seat around 325 people and accommodate almost 500 people for a concert.
The project was funded by Allerdale Borough Council ad The Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
– Councillor Mark Fryer, Executive member of the Carnegie Theatre,
"We made a promise to invest in the Theatre and it's great to be able to deliver on that promise.
The theatre is an important asset for the town and the refurbishment has been received positively by the user groups who will play a full part in the development of the Carnegie going forward.
The future is looking good for the Carnegie."
The first act to appear on stage after the re-opening is Livewire AC/DC on 7th September. **
