An estimated 300 homes in the Wigton area are without electricity due to a problem with a high-voltage cable.
A spokesman for Electricity North West told ITV Border that engineers are on site and working to correct the fault as soon as possible. It is hoped power will be restored to most homes by 7 o'clock this evening.
The company has apologised for the disruption it is likely to cause to customers.
