Cockermouth Shop Front Steering Group have won the English Heritage Angel Award 2012. The awards were set up to honour heritage and conservation workers across the UK.
The Cockermouth Shop Front Steering Group were unanimously voted to win the Angel Award for the “Best Rescue of Any Other Type of Historic Building or Place”
Darren Ward is the chair of the chair of the Steering Group, he said:
“It is architecture and the built environment that remain for generations and it is architecture, great and small, that forms the world we live and creates the foundation of the future. By turning the flood disaster in to an opportunity Cockermouth has not only been rescued but has been made stronger and better.”
