The Ministry of Defence have named a soldier killed in Afghanistan on Sunday, who had been serving with The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, as Captain Walter Barrie.

Captain Barrie was killed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Shawqat in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province on Remembrance Sunday in what is believed to have been an 'insider attack'.

The officer from Glasgow was playing in a football match between British soldiers and members of the Afghan National Army at his base when he was shot at close range by a member of the Afghan Army.
