Major search of Carlisle river for missing man

A major air and land search of the River Eden in Carlisle is underway.

A Sea King helicopter from RAF Bulmour in Northumberland is assisting.

They say they are looking for a man missing since Saturday.

Fresh appeal for missing Carlisle man

A fresh appeal has been made to anyone who has any information regarding the disappearance of Robert Heaton from Carlisle.

Mr Heaton, 41, from Belah Road, Carlisle, went missing a week ago on Friday 16th November, after he left his home around 12:45pm.

Police were called to the River Eden, near Etterby Scaur, where a fishing rod and a baseball cap, believed to belong to Robert where located on November 17th.

His family later confirmed that the cap was Robert’s.

“We have been extensively searching the local area and have received various calls with information from members of the public, but we have not been able to confirm a positive sighting of Robert.

“Our searches to date have involved different agencies including Mountain Rescue Teams, Inshore Rescue, dog handlers, RAF Helicopter and the underwater dive team.

"Our search for Robert will not be over until we can reunite him with his family and we are re-appealing to the community to be vigilant, keep Robert in mind and if you know him and see him, please contact us on 101 immediately."

An extensive search of the area surrounding Robert’s property was carried out, but with nothing was found.

"If anyone seen Robert after 12:45 pm on Friday 16th November in the Belah Road area or after that in the Etterby Scaur area, then we would like to here from you, it is important that we try and establish his movements, it could give us a clue to where he could be.

“I appeal directly to Robert, if you are reading or listening to this, please contact us or your family to let them know you are safe. You are not in any trouble – your family are extremely worried about you and want to know that you are safe.”
