WEATHER: Overnight into Monday

Castlerigg Stone Circle, Keswick Credit: Sheila Lewis, Tyne & Wear

A bitterly cold few days ahead.....

Overnight into Monday: A widespread frost. Clearer conditions in the west but the risk of showers feeding in off the North Sea for eastern parts of The Borders, falling as a wintry mix inland - potentially giving a light dusting of snow over hills by dawn. Icy stretches a risk where showers occur.

Monday: Many places dry & bright, especially Dumfries & Galloway & Cumbria. Showers continue in the east for a time, falling wintry inland. Icy stretches possible. Cold and breezy.
