The numbers of deaths from heart disease and strokes in Scotland have fallen by 43% over the past 10 years.
Statistics from Information Services Division Scotland show that the numbers of people suffering from coronary heart disease incidents, such as heart attacks, has also gone down.
In the Borders, the number of incidents since 2002 have fallen by 4%.
In Dumfries and Galloway, there have been 28% fewer incidents since 2002.
