Two eight-year-old children have been taken to hospital after the car they were travelling in skidded into an electricity pylon in the Borders.

The accident happened one mile north of Carlops on the A702 at around 10pm last night (27th December).

The vehicle, which was carrying the children and their parents, spun several times on the slippery road before hitting a wooden electricity pole.

The children were taken to Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Their mother was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for a check up.
