Evening & Overnight heavy rain will spread in from the west. For Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway 40-60mm of rainfall is expected to fall on already saturated ground. Gales for western coasts and hills.
A wet & windy start to New Year's Eve. Conditions will improve for a time with some sunshine developing.
It turns colder during the day. Showers will develop over Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway towards evening, turning wintry over hills.
Eastern parts will be drier and clearer as we head into 2013.
New Year's Day looks like a mainly dry, bright and blustery day. A chilly start with a touch of frost and maybe a few icy patches. Showers remain a risk for western hills but elsewhere it's a decent day.
