Lorry driver in court over double death charge
A 52-year-old lorry driver has appeared in court today accused of causing the death of two soldiers by dangerous driving.
Colin Pattison was charged after the two men died following a collision between his lorry and the Army Land Rover ambulance they were in on the A66 at Stainmore, on Thursday September 1st, 2011.
The two soldiers - Lance Sergeant David Mark Gartland and Private James Bell Fairburn Austin – were returning to their base at Catterick after a training exercise near Appleby.
At Carlisle Crown Court today Pattison, of Goole, North Humberside, spoke only to confirm his name, and did not enter a plea to the charge.
He will next appears in court for a plea and case management hearing on February 18th.
