The B6355 road between Ayton and Chirnside has been closed in both directions, due to a culvert collapsing under the road.
Scottish Borders Council has started to carry out the work, and the 900mm pipe which is required to replace the old culvert is due to be delivered early next week.
A diversion is in place along the A6105 Berwick Road for all traffic.
"The extremely wet conditions we have experienced over the last few months has clearly taken its toll on our local roads. This is another example of the type of damage caused by such heavy rain. This is a very challenging time but we continue to do all we can to carry out repairs as quickly as is possible.
"We hope to have this road re-opened to traffic before the end of next week and would like to thank drivers for their patience in the meantime."
