10-year-old rescued after 50 metre mountain fall

A 10 year old boy is recovering in hospital after falling 50 metres down a snow-covered mountain.

The young boy from Preston was climbing down Swirral Edge ridge on Helvellyn in the Lake District with his father when he slipped on a steep slope.

Members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene.

A doctor and paramedic were then taken to the ridge by air ambulance, where they treated the boy.

He is said to be recovering well in the RVI hospital in Newcastle.
