Cumbrians in national first

People living in the Eden area of Cumbria are about to become the first in the country to hold their own planning referendum. It's to decide how their communities should develop in the next few years.

The idea is part of a Government scheme to give areas more of a say about the decisions that affect them. Planning Minister, Nick Boles, and Communities Minister, Don Foster, will meet residents in the Kirkby Stephen area of Eden on Monday February 25th.

It comes ahead of the country's first neighbourhood planning referendum on March 7th. The ministers will hear more about the Eden proposals that include providing more homes for local people by allowing extra development on farms and better broadband connections.
