'We are future proofing the club' says Queens chairman

The new pitches will allow local community groups and others to use the facilities, and will bring the total number of 3G pitches in south-west Scotland to six.

The others, including Galabank, the home of Annan Athletic FC, were installed last year.

"We are future proofing the club. We are able to generate revenue from the pitch. The young kids these days train on astro turf. It's nothing new to them.

"They are happy to play on that so I think astro turf is the way forward."

– Billy Hewitson, Chairman, Queen of the South
