Power restored to most homes

Scottish Power say there are still around 250 properties without electricity in southern Scotland. 50 of those have been without power since Friday.

When the bad weather first hit on Friday there were around 10,000 homes without power across Dumfries and Galloway.

Engineers have been out working all weekend, but gale force winds have hampered their efforts of as they try to restore power to remote houses.

13 schools in Dumfries and Galloway are closed today, but all are due to reopen tomorrow.

Cumbria police say that power has been restored to the 1,700 homes that were affected there. They are now working to reopen the roads that have been closed since Friday and are asking anyone forced to abandon their car on the A595 at the weekend to contact them by phoning 101.
